School Orchestra

St. Mary's College Orchestra

The St. Mary’s College Orchestra has had a busy term. This year we welcomed almost 30 new members to the orchestra mostly from the new incoming first year group and some from other years.

In September two members of the orchestra and MS. Christine Steele who is the orchestras Musical Director entertained the members of the Chamber of Commerce Arklow and 5 of our government TD’s at the annual Chamber Ball in the Arklow Bay.

Just recently the immensely popular band ‘The Elders’ arrived from America bringing with them 100 of their fans and their backing group Moxie Strings. The Moxie Strings in conjunction with the Arklow Music and Arts group offered a master class in their Cajun/Irish crossover music to the orchestra which was highly educational and also very entertaining for the girls, the Moxie strings then went on to offer a place for the girls to play on stage that night in the Elders concert in the Arklow Bay which was wonderfully received by all.

On Wednesday October 26th, the orchestra hosted a rehearsal in the Concert Hall which was collaboration between St. Mary's College Arklow Orchestra and the East Wicklow Youth Service/Sunbeam House Drumming Group and their Musical Director Tommy Breen. The Orchestra is currently in rehearsal for Christmas and the upcoming competition season.
